Turnaround
I would just like to say how incredibly proud and hopeful I am right now. It has been so long since I've felt pride in my country, and let me tell you, I am glowing. Once we figure out that Webb beat Allen, it will be another win for the Dems, and a big win for our country. Yay democracy!
But I really wanted to give a shout out to the Big D. Dallas pulled through BIG time. No, we didn't get Kinky, but we knew that. What we did do is upset the sure-fire DA race here by voting in the underdog, and Toby Shook was ousted. The winner, Craig Watkins, is also our first black DA, mind you. Good times.
And, in a stunning show, Democrats in Dallas took 41 of the 42 seats that had been held by Republican judges forever. A quote in this mornings paper:
"At first I was taking it personally," said Republican Livia Liu, who lost her seat as criminal district judge. "Now I know it's the whole Republican Party going down. This is what it's all about. You win and lose. Dallas County is no longer a Republican Party."
And, without further ado, my rant:
HA! You looney right-wingers thought that your fear-mongering, hypocritical family value bullshit would last forever, didn't you? Well there you go! You can shove your abortion bans and your moral high ground right up your rich white asses, you pigs. This country has had enough of being force-fed this bullshit for 6 years, and your Republican Revolution is over. Hear me? OVER!
And, you, Rumsfeld. Goodbye. The fact that it took this long to get you out is baffling, but, hey, it's done. And your buddy Cheney couldn't do shit about it. Let me shed a tear for you. No, really. Or, maybe I'll shed a tear for the thousands of US Troops that have lost their lives due to your mishandling of this avoidable situation. Or the HUNDREDS of thousands of dead Iraqi civilians. Goodbye, you steaming pile of shit. And go fuck yourself.
/rant
Now, let us try to gather the hope that we have now together and see if the Dems don't sink themselves. Hold it together. Please.
I have felt such shame in my country over the past few years. I can't tell you how it feels to be proud again.

Hi Layla, when I read your post, I remembered what it was about America that I really admired and you summed it up in your piece. Keep up the writing.
